I'm so glad that I put off reading this book for so long and so mad at the same time. I'm glad because now I can suffer a little bit less time waiting for the next book than I would have if I read it when I first bought it. But I'm mad because I waited that long! How could I forget how obsessed I get with the VA and Bloodlines series. Ugh, oh my god, just so many feels, so much emotion.
I honestly really love this Vampire Academy spin-off because I'm just not ready to let these characters go yet! Even though there are only a few from the VA series, I still love it and love those characters. One of the things I love most about the Bloodlines series is Adrian Ivashkov....and Dimitri, obviously :)
Throughout VA, we only ever got to see Adrian as the Adrian that's going after Rose, then the Adrian who was heartbroken by Rose. In Bloodlines we finally get to see Adrian as Adrian and not connected to Rose and her storyline. Yeah, he's still bummed about their breakup and how it all went down but he's his own character now in this series. I loved him in VA because I thought he was funny and added the light-heartedness and snark the story needed. But now I love him so much more. Especially what's been going on between him and Sydney. The entire time I was reading The Golden Lily, i was just chanting "KISS! KISS! KISS!" in my head. I knew it would happen eventually but I thought it would so much sooner. Richelle Mead did a good job at setting me up and tricking me!
I loved, loved, loved that Dimitri played a role in this one. I love badass and intense he is, I just think all of his scenes are so intense and exciting because he's always so intense. I loved his few fight scenes because they reminded me just how badass he was in VA and how much I missed it! But I have to say that my favorite Dimitri part was when he got the phone call from Rose, it just ahhh soothed my soul.
I found the storyline of The Golden Lily really intriguing, I was completely sucked in and didn't want to stop reading. I stayed up a few nights in a row until 2 or 3 in the morning because I just loved it so much. 10 more minutes would turn into one more chapter, then another chapter, then another. I was a little nervous that this one wouldn't live up Bloodlines and VA because of a few reviews I've seen, but I really loved it!
There were a lot of plot twists that I wasn't expecting either, which I really loved! I didn't expect what went on with Trey's character and how he fit into the grand scheme of things, so that was quite a shock! I thought Brayden's character was pretty bleh, but I guess that was the point. I just couldn't get into his character or be a fan of him and Sydney, I was just cheering for Adrian the entire time.
All of the characters have just grown on me so much, I don't think there's one that I dislike. I'm annoyed with Trey because of the whole Warriors thing but I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and hope he changes his mind/ways. Eddie has especially grown on me, I love how alike he is Dimitri and his fierceness in protecting Jill. Like Dimitri, he put his own personal feelings and love aside and focused on protecting everyone around him. Sydney has also really grown on me, another reason I'm so glad that Bloodlines continued the VA story. We got to see who Sydney really is, other than the uptight Alchemist who helps Rose when needed. She's finally seeing how wrong the Alchemist view of the Moroi really are. Hopefully she'll finally get past it and be with Adrian! Fingers crossed!
I really loved this book and am counting down the months until Indigo Spell comes out in February!
