Let me just start out by saying I am a HUGE Nicholas Sparks fan. I love all of his books and look forward to his newest book every year. But Safe Haven just blew all of his other books out of the water for me. Up until reading Safe Haven, The Guardian had been my absolute favorite by Nicholas Sparks. I loved The Guardian because not only did it have a beautiful, evolving love story but it had a sense of danger to it and became a thriller. Safe Haven was the exact same way but even more so to me.
Safe Haven is about a young woman named Katie who is trying to escape her physically, mentally and emotionally abusive husband. She finds a sense of safety and solace in a cottage in North Carolina, where she meets a single father, Alex. They slowly begin to fall in love and just when Katie thinks she can finally let out that breath she's been holding, her past shows up and bites her.
I've heard from a few people that this book was really slow for them but I just don't see how! I thought it was amazing! I finished it in about 2 days because I just had to keep going, always wanting to know what was going to happen next. Bouncing back and forth between Katie and her crazy husband was really interesting and kept me intrigued the entire time. It's hard not to love this book with a man like Alex in it, also. He's so adorable and homey, he's just so sweet. I love men who are great with kids and he's so cute with his children that it's hard not to swoon over his character.
I lent this book to two friends at work after I finished it, one loved it and the other not so much. She said that she didn't like the ending where you find out who Katie's neighbor really is. I personally loved that part, I thought it was really sweet and gave some closure for her.
All in all, I really loved this book. Definitely one of my favorites of his! If you love his previous books, you will definitely love this one!
