This book was really rough to get through for me for some reason. It's not that it wasn't enjoyable, it just seemed to drag on most of the time and went along at a very slow pace. I think you have to be an extreme history buff (especially in that period) to really appreciate and enjoy this story.
Although I wasn't thrilled from the beginning, maybe about 3/4 of the way through I began to get involved in the story. It was interesting to see through Queen Elizabeth's POV, although most of the story is fiction there is some factual information incorporated through the story. I didn't realize how much research Gregory did in order to write this novel until I read the bibliography in the back.
I feel bad giving what seems to be a negative review because I did enjoy the story. I just think I may have enjoyed it more if I was really interested in history and this specific period.
