Title: Out of This Place
Author: Emma Cameron
Publisher: St.Martin's Press
Genre: YA, Contemporary
Pages: 416
Rating: 3 Stars
Goodreads Summary: "Luke spends his days hanging out at the beach, working shifts at the local supermarket, and trying to stay out of trouble at school until he can be on his own. Bongo gets wasted, blocking out memories of the little brother Social Services took away from his addict mom and avoiding the stepdad who hits him. And Casey, the girl they both love, longs to get away from her strict, controlling father and start anew in a place where she can be free. When their lives all take very different and surprising paths, will these three friends find a way to come together again?"
It did take me a little while to get into this story, I'm not gonna lie. The story itself was good but I never really got attached to the characters. I was interested in the story but never really got too invested. I did like how it switched between three of the main characters, Luke, Casey and Bongo/David. I was more interested in Casey and Bongo's stories because they had more to them really, Luke's was pretty "ehh" for me. I'm usually a crier when reading books like this, but even though I felt for the characters and was saddened by their situations, mainly Casey and Bongo, I never teared up. That's how I know that I really love a book, if it's able to really pull at my heartstrings and get into my emotions.
One thing that did bug me though was I got confused a lot with the story, it felt like it jumped around a lot. All of a sudden there was a new turn in the story and I had no idea how it got there.
Overall I did like the story but I wasn't completely sold on it :/

If You Find Me - Emily Murdoch
Title: If You Find Me
Author: Emily Murdoch
Publisher: St.Martin's Press
Genre: YA, Drama, Realistic Fiction, Contemporary
Pages: 256
Rating: 5 Stars
Goodreads Summary: "A broken-down camper hidden deep in a national forest is the only home fifteen year-old Carey can remember. The trees keep guard over her threadbare existence, with the one bright spot being Carey's younger sister, Jenessa, who depends on Carey for her very survival. All they have is each other, as their mentally ill mother comes and goes with greater frequency. Until that one fateful day their mother disappears for good, and two strangers arrive. Suddenly, the girls are taken from the woods and thrust into a bright and perplexing new world of high school, clothes and boys.
Now Carey must face the truth of why her mother abducted her ten years ago, while haunted by a past that won't let her go...a dark past that hides many a secret, including the reason Jenessa hasn't spoken a word in over a year. Carey knows she must keep her sister close, and her secrets even closer, or risk watching her new life come crashing down."
First off, I have to thank the lord for NetGalley because I feel like if it weren't for NetGalley I never would of even heard about this book!
This book was fantastic, in that it had such a captivating story but was so heartbreaking at the same time! What these two girls went through and continued to go through after being rescued honestly just broke my heart. More Carey than Nessa after leaving the woods because she just had such a hard time adjusting to her new life and surroundings, my heart broke for her. I honestly lost count of how many times I teared up while reading this, especially the last 10-12 pages, I was borderline crying at that point.
The characters were also phenomenal to me, especially Carey, talk about a strong female character. This girl honestly went through hell and not only survived but took care of her little sister completely. Carey is willing to sacrifice anything and everything to protect Jenessa and ensure she has the best life possible. She is such a respectable and admirable character, probably one of my favorites of all time.
Carey's younger sister Jenessa is the cutest little girl, despite what she's been through she still such an innocent and happy child. She still has her own set of scars from their time in the woods though, which is just heartbreaking. Her bond and attachment to the father's dog, Shorty, seriously melted my heart.
Delaney, where to start with Delaney. I'm so happy she redeems herself in a few places throughout the story because I honestly did not like her for a lot of the book. It just baffled me how little compassion she had for Carey and was just terrible to her. I get she felt left out and pushed aside but damn, the girl has been starving in the woods alone with a small child for the past ten years WITH a crazy mother, give it a break!
The girls' father and Melissa were such heartwarming characters, they were one of my favorite parts of the story. I loved that they were eventually able to show Carey that you don't have to work or pay for love, that it's unconditional.
I loved Ryan's character, he was completely understanding with Carey and just so sweet. I didn't expect the little twist between their characters either but I feel like it helped Carey so much.
The ending honestly broke my heart, I had an idea that that was what Carey and Nessa's secret was but I wasn't positive. But knowing or not didn't take away from how truly heartbreaking it was for them to go through what they did. As if the page wasn't blurry enough from my tears, Carey just had to break my heart further. Carey had the same feeling throughout the entire story, that if anyone found out her secret they wouldn't want her anymore and would send her away. That honestly just broke my heart that she truly believed that.
This was such a good book, I would definitely recommend it without a doubt! Emily Murdoch is officially one of my favorite authors! I'm really hoping there is a sequel about the fallout following Carey's confession to her father! *fingers crossed*

Tune in Tuesday (5) - Bethany Joy Lenz
Got this meme from book blogger/booktuber Elizziebooks, who got it from another book blogger, Ginger! I loved, loved, loved this idea because if there's anything I love as much as reading, it's music.
One thing I love most about One Tree Hill is all of the amazing music that I've discovered through watching the show. One artist that I absolutely love, that I never would of discovered if it hadn't been for One Tree Hill is Bethany Joy Lenz.
Bethany is actually in a duo named Everly with her good friend, Amber Sweeney. Everything about their music, I just love. Their voices blend together so well and their songs are just so soothing! Their songs just have such a comforting and relaxing sound to them that I adore. I'm so thankful to One Tree Hill because without it I may have never discovered Bethany's/Everly's music, which is now definitely on my favorites list.
The first song of Bethany's that I became obsessed with was "Halo", which Bethany's character on OTH, Haley sang. I just instantly loved this song because it was so relatable! It's about a guy or anyone that you love really just putting you on a pedestal and expecting so much more from you than anyone else. Although it's flattering, it can be so frustrating.

Another one of my favorites is "Feel This" (which I also first heard on OTH), it seriously is such a calming and tranquil song. I actually listen to it if I'm really stressed and just driving in my car. It just helps me let go of my tension and anxiety, not permanently but definitely for a few good, serene thinking moments.
But the song I CANNOT stop listening to right now is "Mirror". Oh my goodness this song, I just love it. It's so catchy and will be stuck in my head the entire day but it's just such a fun song! You can't help but feel a little sassy while singing along!
If you're a OTH fan, I'm sure you've already heard Bethany's music and caught the bug. But if not, I definitely suggest you give her a shot because her music is incredible! :

Friday Favorites (3)
Supernatural!
I have been in love with this show since the very first season, when I was a freshman in high school. I could watch this show all day and be completely content (which I do some days, haha). I am so into paranormal and supernatural type shows and books, so this is the show for me. The first few seasons are my favorites, especially the first because every episode had a new monster that the brothers had to take down. Not that I don't love every season, but the first is definitely one of my favorites. Not to mention, those two boys are not hard to look at. I could look at Jensen Ackles until the end of time, that man is so beautiful! :) If you need a supernatural/paranormal fix, this is definitely the show for you!
Brookside Dark Chocolate Covered Pomegranates!
If you're trying to be health conscious but your sweet tooth needs a fix, try these out. They're 180 calories for 1/4 of a cup, the only problem is the sugars/carbs, there's 26g carb and 25g sugar. So when I occasionally have these, I try to have half a serving or have half earlier in the day and maybe have the other half for an after dinner snack if I'm really craving!

I am in love with Maroon 5, so when this new album came out I was all over it! It's not my favorite album of theirs but I still love it just as much as their other albums! It has a lot of fun songs with good tempos to work out too, like "One Night" and "Lucky Strike". One of my favorites off this album is "Sad" because it's another side to Adam Levine's voice that we don't always get to hear. If I had to pick a favorite song based on his voice, it would definitely have to be "Sad". If you're a Maroon 5 and haven't heard this album yet, give it a shot because you won't be disappointed!

Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. Into the Darkest Corner by Elizabeth Haynes
Summary: Catherine Bailey has been enjoying the single life long enough to know a catch when she sees one. Gorgeous, charismatic and spontaneous, Lee seems almost too perfect to be true. Ten Things We Did (and Probably Shouldn't Have) by Sarah Mlynowski
Summary: 2 girls + 3 guys + 1 house - parents = 10 things April and her friends did that they (definitely, maybe, probably) shouldn't have.
If given the opportunity, what sixteen-year-old wouldn't jump at the chance to move in with a friend and live parent-free? Although maybe "opportunity" isn't the right word, since April had to tell her dad a tiny little untruth to make it happen (see #1: "Lied to Our Parents"). But she and her housemate Vi are totally responsible and able to take care of themselves. How they ended up "Skipping School" (#3), "Throwing a Crazy Party (#8), "Buying a Hot Tub" (#4), and, um, "Harboring a Fugitive" (#7) at all is kind of a mystery to them.
To get through the year, April will have to juggle a love triange, learn to do her own laundry, and accept that her carefully constructed world just might be falling apart...one thing-she-shouldn't-have-done at the time.

The Wedding Wager - Rachel Astor
Title: The Wedding Wager
Author: Rachel Astor
Publisher: Smashwords
Genre: Fiction, Romance
Pages: 360 (Nook Color)
Rating: 4 Stars
Just an FYI, this series only comes in an ebook version. Bridesmaid Lotto, the first in the McMaster the Disaster series is actually free from both Barnes & Noble and Amazon for the Nook and Kindle. The following two books, Gamble on Engagement and The Wedding Wager are under 5 dollars each.
Goodreads Summary: Josie's back and she's getting married! Except how is she supposed to plan a wedding when her mother and her best friend Mattie both think they're the designated wedding planner, and none of their ideas are remotely similar/ Mom wants super-traditional and Mattie wants... well, the complete opposite.
And that's not all Josie has to deal with. The gossip hounds are as invasive as ever; setting up polls on everything from what shoes she'll wear to when the divorce will be! Can't a girl at least get married first?
But the marriage is threatened when the Diaster Diary provides Josie with an opportunity of a lifetime and the real question becomes: with the stakes so high, is Josie willing to risk it all and take a chance on herself?
The Wedding Wager was definitely the most intriguing out of the three stories in this series. I felt like it had the most substance, not just the drama, just the actually storyline itself. This story went the most in depth and just has the most to offer. This story line is much more intriguing, from the wedding planning drama between Josie/Mattie/her mother to the inevitable and predictable drama between Josie and Jake. Unlike the other two which just skimmed the water, this one actually dove in a little bit, giving you more to read and making it easier to get intrigued.
Even though a lot of this series was very predictable, such as Josie's alienation from everyone in her life (Jake, Mattie, Jen and her mother) I honestly wasn't sure she was going to be able to fix it in the end. I was nearing the end of the story and Josie was still alone and hadn't patched up her relationships. I like that she wasn't able to automatically fix everything, which is the case in many books where the main character fights with everyone in their life then says "I'm sorry" and everything is magically fixed. You get the impression that it may not be alright in the end and that was very intriguing.
I liked the idea of the Disaster Diary getting published, I agreed with Josie that it made her seem so approachable and normal. I could relate to her because of my ridiculous amounts of clumsiness, so I thought the diary getting published was a cute idea. I also loved how Josie stuck to her guns, not many women would if the man they loved told them that it was either him or publishing the diary. I thought it showed some strength in her character that she was able to stand up for what she wanted and didn't just give in because he told her not to do it (not to because mention he's the hottest movie star at the moment). It gave Josie's character a lot more depth, which I think had been lacking at some points.
Overall, I really enjoyed this series. It didn't take long to read at all and was just a quick, fun beach read :)

Gamble on Engagement - Rachel Astor
Title: Gamble on Engagement
Author: Rachel Astor
Publisher: Smashwords
Genre: Fiction, Romance
Pages: 383 (Nook Color)
Rating: 4 Stars
Just an FYI, this series only comes in an ebook version. Bridesmaid Lotto, the first in the McMaster the Disaster series is actually free from both Barnes & Noble and Amazon for the Nook and Kindle. The following two books, Gamble on Engagement and The Wedding Wager are under 5 dollars each.
Goodreads Summary: In this sequel to Bridesmaid Lotto, Josie McMaster is on the move to London for a top-secret stint as a ghostwriter for a high profile celebrity. It's her dream job; she's got a beautiful place to stay in the English countryside, full access to the celebrity, and three months to complete the best ghostwritten autobiography anyone has ever seen.
In true McMaster the Disaster fashion, Josie tumbles head-first into scandal, apparently more than just an average ghostwriter in the eyes of this new celebrity. Not to mention she has never written a biography, but...how hard could it really be?
Of course, the paparazzi is not helping matters, constantly publicizing the 'when will Jake Hall pop the question' betting pool, which is completely ridiculous considering she and Jake have only been dating a short while..or is it?
Just like Bridesmaid Lotto, I really enjoyed Gamble on Engagement, this one was also an easy read and really lighthearted. I think I actually liked it better than the first because it had more of a storyline and substance. I still feel like it only scratches the surface on things that could of been a lot more in depth. I feel like a lot of things were introduced but then weren't followed up on and then were suddenly resolved.
I thought the situation between Josie and Leo was interesting because of the irony that Josie had two of the most eligible bachelors interested her at the same time! I really hoped that it wouldn't turn into this awkward love triangle where she didn't know which she would choose and have that be the main focus. So, I was glad that it didn't happen like that and she stayed true to Jake throughout the story.
A lot of things were very predictable, like with Bridesmaid Lotto but it didn't make the story any less enjoyable. I was glad the Disaster Diary entries continued and didn't stop after the first book. Just like the first book, these sporadic entries really made me laugh while I was reading.
If you're into lighthearted stories with romance and a little bit of drama and humor, this is the series for you :)

Tune in Tuesday (4)
Got this meme from book blogger/booktuber Elizziebooks, who got it from another book blogger, Ginger! I loved, loved, loved this idea because if there's anything I love as much as reading, it's music.
I absolutely love country music, I could listen to it all day and be completely content. I used to hate it, my dad listens to it and I just thought it was the lamest thing. But a really good friend of mine is also obsessed and slowly would make me listen to songs and artists and before I knew it I was completely obsessed. When I would put my iPod or phone on shuffle maybe 1 out of every 12 or 13 songs would be country, now it's 1 in every 3 or 4. I don't know how it happened but somewhere along the road, I became obsessed.
One country man that I'm really loving lately (other than my favorite country man, Luke Bryan) is Frankie Ballard. A month or so ago I was in the car with my cousin and she kept saying how she had to show me this amazing new country singer. I'm so happy she did, but so sad I didn't know about him before!!
My favorite song of his is "Tell Me You Get Lonely", I think it's just the sweetest song. The entire song he keeps saying how she made a mistake and that he knows she's lonely without him but then he flips it and says how he's just been waiting for her to say that she still wants to be with him and his bags have been packed. So cute.
My cousin actually hated country music until she saw him preform this song at a country festival she went to with her boyfriend. Which I think is a true testament as to how great it really is! :)
I just love everything about his music right now, from his playing to the gravelly sound in voice.
I could just listen to his music all day!
Any Frankie Ballard or country fans out there? What have you been listening to lately?

Just an FYI, this series only comes in an ebook version. Bridesmaid Lotto, the first in the McMaster the Disaster series is actually free from both Barnes & Noble and Amazon for the Nook and Kindle.
Goodreads Summary: Josephine McMaster is pretty and smart, but very much a klutzy mess. Finally, at 26, she may have actually lost the dreaded 'McMaster the Disaster' nickname that has followed her around her whole life.
Josie's quite content to be single, much to her mother's disappointment. So when a bizarre contest is announced where a socialite is holding a lottery to pick her bridesmaids, she can't roll her eyes fast enough, even if it does mean meeting Jake Hall, her one and only movie star crush. Obviously, Josie doesn't enter the bridesmaid lottery, so you can imagine her surprise when her picture pops up among the winners, thanks to Mom. With a little prodding --okay bribing-- Josie agrees to participate.
The wedding turns into the event of the year, and Josie finds herself in the middle of a paparazzi feeding frenzy, which gets crazier after Jake Hall takes special interest in her. Can Josie handle the pressure in the spotlight? Is it possible she might really have a chance with Jake Hall? And if she's busy worrying about all that, how in the heck is she going to keep 'McMaster the Disaster' from showing up in front of the entire world?
This book was good and bad for me. I really liked the lightheartedness of the story and how it felt like an easy beach read (which was good for camping on the beach this past week :) ) . This was such an easy story to get lost in that it only took a couple of days to get through. The plot itself was interesting and entertaining and not something I've heard before but it could be really predictable at times.
One of my biggest problems with this book was the grammatical errors and spelling slip-ups. Which isn't really that big of a deal, just a pet peeve of mine. It doesn't bother me if a book has a few but it happened a lot in this book.
This story didn't really go too in depth either, you only really scratch the surface of the characters and the story. You get the main plot points but it never really goes too into the story and what's happening. After Josie is chosen to be a bridesmaids, you don't really get too much about the actual plans for the wedding, other than picking up her bridesmaids dress and the bachelorette party. Even with the wedding, there really wasn't much detail about the wedding itself and focused mainly on Josie and Jake's interactions. Which is understandable seeing as how she's the main character and the development of their relationship is the main focus of the book, but I just felt like those parts were lacking.
I love Jake's character, because he represents every woman's unrealistic dream of being with her dream celebrity crush *cough* Bradley Cooper *cough*! Finding out that he actually is the way you dreamed he would be, sweet and completely normal! I found his and Josie's relationship to just be really sweet and simple, and just adorable.
One thing that I really liked throughout the story were Josie's Disaster Diary entries. They added to the fun, lighthearted feeling of the book, they actually had me laughing out loud while I was reading. Some of the situations and predicaments Josie has gotten herself into throughout her life are seriously comical!
All in all this book really was enjoyable because of how lighthearted and easy it was. I would recommend it, especially if you're looking for a fun beach read :)
