Just an FYI, this series only comes in an ebook version. Bridesmaid Lotto, the first in the McMaster the Disaster series is actually free from both Barnes & Noble and Amazon for the Nook and Kindle. The following two books, Gamble on Engagement and The Wedding Wager are under 5 dollars each.
Goodreads Summary: Josie's back and she's getting married! Except how is she supposed to plan a wedding when her mother and her best friend Mattie both think they're the designated wedding planner, and none of their ideas are remotely similar/ Mom wants super-traditional and Mattie wants... well, the complete opposite.
And that's not all Josie has to deal with. The gossip hounds are as invasive as ever; setting up polls on everything from what shoes she'll wear to when the divorce will be! Can't a girl at least get married first?
But the marriage is threatened when the Diaster Diary provides Josie with an opportunity of a lifetime and the real question becomes: with the stakes so high, is Josie willing to risk it all and take a chance on herself?
The Wedding Wager was definitely the most intriguing out of the three stories in this series. I felt like it had the most substance, not just the drama, just the actually storyline itself. This story went the most in depth and just has the most to offer. This story line is much more intriguing, from the wedding planning drama between Josie/Mattie/her mother to the inevitable and predictable drama between Josie and Jake. Unlike the other two which just skimmed the water, this one actually dove in a little bit, giving you more to read and making it easier to get intrigued.
Even though a lot of this series was very predictable, such as Josie's alienation from everyone in her life (Jake, Mattie, Jen and her mother) I honestly wasn't sure she was going to be able to fix it in the end. I was nearing the end of the story and Josie was still alone and hadn't patched up her relationships. I like that she wasn't able to automatically fix everything, which is the case in many books where the main character fights with everyone in their life then says "I'm sorry" and everything is magically fixed. You get the impression that it may not be alright in the end and that was very intriguing.
I liked the idea of the Disaster Diary getting published, I agreed with Josie that it made her seem so approachable and normal. I could relate to her because of my ridiculous amounts of clumsiness, so I thought the diary getting published was a cute idea. I also loved how Josie stuck to her guns, not many women would if the man they loved told them that it was either him or publishing the diary. I thought it showed some strength in her character that she was able to stand up for what she wanted and didn't just give in because he told her not to do it (not to because mention he's the hottest movie star at the moment). It gave Josie's character a lot more depth, which I think had been lacking at some points.
Overall, I really enjoyed this series. It didn't take long to read at all and was just a quick, fun beach read :)
